ABOUT THE HOSPITAL


Welcome to the Sharjah Equine Hospital. Established in 2003 under the patronage of H.R.H Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah, the Sharjah Equine Hospital has become a rapidly maturing comprehensive diagnostic centre which serves Sharjah and the surrounding Emirates.

REPRODUCTION CENTRE


The Equine Reproduction Centre boasts state-of-the-art examination, laboratory and stabling facilities.

Services offered include:

  • Reproductive examinations to determine when to breed your mare
  • Artificial insemination with fresh, chilled or frozen semen
  • Embryo recovery and transfer
  • Infertility examinations
  • Semen and embryo freezing

Stallions can be collected for semen evaluation and the semen prepared for transport. Semen freezing can be undertaken for both the local and export markets as the Laboratory is an EU licensed semen storage and collection centre. Likewise, the Laboratory is an EU licensed embryo collection and freezing centre – the only one in the UAE.

Furthermore, assistance is provided with the importing of frozen semen from abroad and as well as arranging breeding contracts between stallion and mare owners.

LABORATORY


We have our own Diagnostic Laboratory which benefits greatly from the co-operative support of Rossdales Veterinary Laboratory in Newmarket, England. Our team of laboratory staff are able to receive samples from veterinary practitioners all over the UAE.

CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAM


Sharjah Equine Hospital offers a 4 week externship for the final year veterinary student or recent graduate who is committed to entering equine specialized practice. Externs will receive in-depth exposure to all equine disciplines and assist clinicians with diagnostic and therapeutic care. NOTE: Participants of this program will take precedence should they apply for the Sharjah Equine Hospital internship position.

To be eligible for this position, you must be in your last year of veterinary medicine training or a recent graduate of veterinary school. You must also be able to speak, write and read English competently.

Notes:

  • Program lasts for a 4 week period
  • Accommodation provided with kitchen and laundry facilities available
  • Indicate month(s) of choice preferred, however, it is first come first serve basis

Requirements:

  • Applicant must be a final year veterinary student or recent graduate
  • Must be proficient in spoken and written English
  • Curriculum Vitae or Resume
  • Two reference letters from veterinarian or professor

The Sharjah Equine Hospital internship is a one year clinical program open to qualified veterinary graduates. The program is designed to provide the intern with opportunities to strengthen their knowledge of all aspects of an equine veterinary practice. The program allows the intern to gain experience in a facility with a large and varied case load working closely with veterinary specialists from many disciplines. You will also have the opportunity to develop interpersonal skills by communicating with referring veterinarians, clients and the dedicated hospital team.

Notes:

  • One year program beginning 1st June until 31st May
  • Applications will be accepted from 1st October until 31st March
  • All applications should be received within 2 years from graduation of veterinary school and obtaining your veterinary degree

Requirements:

  • Applicants having completed a Sharjah Equine Hospital externship will be given selection priority
  • Candidates must be highly proficient in reading, writing and speaking English
  • Letter of Intent
  • Curriculum Vitae or Resume
  • Three reference letters from veterinarians, preferably equine practitioners

The ABVP sanctioned residents program at the Sharjah Equine Hospital is a 2 year program that provides advanced clinical training in numerous phases of equine practice and fulfills the credentialing requirements for certification by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners. The program allows the resident to gain experience with a varied case load under the guidance of veterinary specialists in many disciplines. SEH emphasizes orthopedics/sports medicine, surgery, emergency critical care, neonatology and reproduction.

Notes:

  • SEH is registered to run the ABVP program
  • Minimum of 2 years
  • Candidate will receive a salary
  • Accommodation and transportation provided

Requirements:

  • Candidates must be highly proficient in reading, writing and speaking English
  • Applicants must be DVM Diplomats
  • Applicants must have completed an internship or at least 1 year of practice in the speciality area
  • Curriculum Vitae or Resume
  • Three reference letters from veterinarians, preferably equine practitioners
