Infertility Investigations
If you are having problems getting your mare pregnant, we can help to identify and address infertility issues. Sometimes the problem is very simple to sort out, for example, we may just need to diagnose a bacterial infection in her uterus and treat her with intrauterine antibiotics or correct her vulval conformation. In other cases we can use more specialist techniques – hormone profiling, visualisation of the inside of her uterus using with video-endoscopy (where a flexible tube with a camera is passed into the uterus to assess uterine health), removal of endometrial cysts with laser surgery, surgical correction of urine pooling or cervical incompetence, karyotyping and/or endometrial biopsies (where a small piece of the endometrium is assessed under the microscope to determine the degree of degenerative changes in the uterus). We also consult with Dr Maarten Hoogewijs, a Diplomate of the European College of Animal Reproduction and equine reproduction specialist, on difficult cases, and use the world-renowned Rossdales Veterinary Laboratories to interpret endometrial biopsies.
We will give you an honest appraisal of your mare’s breeding potential and discuss options with you to give you the best possible chance of obtaining a foal from her.
