Semen Collection and Freezing
Whether you're looking to secure your stallion's legacy, preserve rare genetics or just provide semen for a mare to be inseminated with, our expert team can help you.
Stallions can be collected for semen evaluation and the semen prepared for transport. In addition, we can train stallions to mount the ‘dummy mare’ (an artificial mount for collection). Semen can be evaluated to assess motility, morphology and longevity, using state-of-the-art computer assisted semen analysis alongside our expert eyes using a microscope.
We can also advise you if your stallion’s semen is suitable for semen freezing. Sharjah equine Hospital is an EU licensed semen storage and collection centre so semen freezing can be undertaken for both the local and export markets. Furthermore, assistance is provided with importing frozen semen from abroad and as well as arranging breeding contracts between stallion and mare owners.
Using a variety of tests and investigations we can also assess stallions with infertility problems. We will then discuss the case with you and advise you as to the best way forward.
As well as our reproduction team at the hospital we also consult with Dr Maarten Hoogewijs, a Diplomate of the European College of Animal Reproduction and specialist in stallion reproduction, utilising his extensive knowledge and expertise for difficult cases. Dr Maarten also visits the hospital during the breeding season for extended periods of time to provide on-site help and advice.
